Wounded warrior programs

Wounded warrior programs are Department of Defense and TRICARE resources for service members who are wounded, ill, or injured.

Wounded warrior is a general name for programs that support service members who are wounded, ill, or injured. TRICARE’s page for injured service members says TRICARE offers special benefits, including respite care, for caregivers of wounded, ill, or injured service members, and that your care depends on your current military status.

Programs TRICARE lists include the Warrior Care Program, the Warrior Navigation and Assistance Program in the East Region, and wounded warrior pay through DFAS. An injury counts as a qualifying life event only when it results in medical retirement.
