Open Season FAQ
What is TRICARE Open Season?
TRICARE Open Season is an annual enrollment period, typically in mid-November through early December, when eligible beneficiaries can enroll in, change between, or cancel TRICARE Prime and TRICARE Select without needing a qualifying life event.
Who can make changes during Open Season?
Active duty family members, retirees under 65, and their eligible family members can make plan changes during Open Season. Active duty service members are automatically enrolled in TRICARE Prime and cannot change plans.
When do Open Season changes take effect?
All changes made during TRICARE Open Season take effect on January 1 of the following year.
Can I change my plan outside of Open Season?
Outside of Open Season, you can only change your TRICARE plan if you experience a qualifying life event (QLE) such as a PCS move, marriage, birth of a child, retirement, or loss of other health insurance coverage.
How do I make a change during Open Season?
You can make enrollment changes through milConnect (milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil), by contacting your regional contractor (Humana Military for East, TriWest for West), or by visiting a TRICARE Service Center at your local military installation.
