Defense Health Agency (DHA)

The Defense Health Agency is the Department of Defense combat support agency that runs the military health system, including the TRICARE health plan.

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency. By its own description, it operates the military’s health enterprise. The office that manages the TRICARE Health Plan reports to and operates under the authority of the DHA Director.

TRICARE is the health plan; DHA is the agency behind it. Regional contractors such as Humana Military and TriWest serve beneficiaries in each region, so for enrollment, referrals, and claims questions you will usually talk to your regional contractor rather than DHA itself.
