Does TRICARE cover erectile dysfunction treatment?

TRICARE covers the diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) when it is caused by an organic (medical) condition such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, neurological conditions, hormonal disorders, or injury, including combat-related injuries. Covered services include diagnostic evaluation to determine the cause of ED, FDA-approved oral medications (such as sildenafil and tadalafil) through the TRICARE pharmacy benefit, vacuum erection devices, penile injection therapy, testosterone replacement when indicated by documented hypogonadism, and penile prosthesis implantation when other treatments have failed. Pre-authorization may be required for surgical procedures such as penile implants. TRICARE limits the quantity of ED medications dispensed, and some medications may require prior authorization from the TRICARE pharmacy program. Standard pharmacy copays apply for ED medications. Counseling for psychological components of ED is also covered as a mental health benefit. Active duty members can access ED treatment at military treatment facilities at no cost.
