Does TRICARE cover braces?

TRICARE's standard medical benefit does not cover orthodontic treatment such as braces, as it is generally considered dental care. However, the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP), administered by United Concordia, provides orthodontic benefits for eligible dependents. Under the TDP, orthodontic services are covered at a 50% cost-share after a 24-month waiting period, with a lifetime maximum benefit of $1,750 per person. Active duty service members receive orthodontic care through their branch of service at military dental clinics when capacity and mission allow, though braces are generally only provided if they can be completed within the member's service obligation at that duty station.
