TRICARE Young Adult — a purchased plan extending coverage to an adult child up to age 26.

Applies to: TRICARE Young Adult · All regions

TRICARE Young Adult (TYA) is a premium-based plan option that extends comprehensive medical and pharmacy coverage to an unmarried adult child up to their 26th birthday, after regular TRICARE eligibility for children (age 21, or 23 if a full-time student) ends.

To qualify, the adult child must be unmarried, not eligible for their own employer-sponsored health coverage, and not serving in the Uniformed Services themselves. This is a separate program from the disabled adult child exception, which has no upper age limit but requires a Service determination.
