TRICARE Select is a self-managed PPO-style plan available in the U.S. You can see any TRICARE-authorized provider, but staying in the network keeps your costs lower. You usually don’t need a referral for primary or specialty care, and you can get care at a military hospital or clinic on a space-available basis.

Enrollment is required, and an annual enrollment fee applies unless you’re an active duty family member. Select tends to make sense if TRICARE Prime isn’t available where you live, you have other health insurance, or you want to keep seeing a non-network provider without switching.
