What is TRICARE Prime Remote?

TRICARE Prime Remote (TPR) is a managed care option designed for active duty service members and their command-sponsored family members who live and work in areas more than 50 miles (or one hour drive time) from a military treatment facility (MTF). TPR provides the same benefits as TRICARE Prime but allows beneficiaries to receive care through civilian network providers rather than at an MTF. Active duty members on TPR designate a civilian primary care manager (PCM) who coordinates their care and provides referrals for specialty services. There is no enrollment fee for TPR, and active duty members have no out-of-pocket costs. Active duty family members on TPR for the Active Duty Family Member (TPRADFM) variant also have no enrollment fees and minimal copays similar to TRICARE Prime. Eligibility is determined based on the service member's duty location, and the regional contractor verifies that the beneficiary resides in a designated remote area. TPR ensures that service members stationed in remote locations still receive coordinated, high-quality healthcare.
