How does TRICARE work when I'm stationed or living overseas?

TRICARE coverage overseas is managed through the TRICARE Overseas Program (TOP):

TRICARE Prime Overseas • Available in designated locations • Requires enrollment (no fees for AD families) • Assigned Primary Care Manager • Referrals required for specialty care

TRICARE Select Overseas • Available worldwide • No enrollment required • Freedom to choose providers • Annual deductibles and cost-shares apply

Key Differences from Stateside • May need to file your own claims • Payments in local currency • Limited provider networks • Different emergency care procedures

Filing Claims • Submit within one year of service • Use DD Form 2642 • Include all receipts and documentation
