How to choose a PCM for TRICARE Prime?

Choosing the right primary care manager (PCM) is important for your TRICARE Prime experience, as your PCM will be your main point of contact for all healthcare needs. Start by searching for available PCMs in your area through your regional contractor's provider directory (Humana Military or TriWest) or through your military treatment facility if you prefer an MTF provider. Key factors to consider when choosing a PCM include geographic convenience and proximity to your home or work, office hours including evening and weekend availability, provider specialty and experience (family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics for children), patient reviews and satisfaction ratings, same-day appointment availability, telehealth options, and language preferences. If you choose an MTF provider, care is at no cost but appointment availability may be limited. Civilian network PCMs offer more scheduling flexibility with standard copays. You can change your PCM at any time without waiting for Open Season by contacting your regional contractor or MTF enrollment office. When first enrolling in Prime, you may be automatically assigned a PCM if you do not make a selection. Review your assignment and change if needed to ensure you have a provider that meets your needs.
