Overview

TRICARE Open Season is the annual window when eligible beneficiaries can enroll in, change, or disenroll from a TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan without a Qualifying Life Event. It runs from the Monday of the second full week of November through the Monday of the second full week of December each year.

Effective date

Coverage elected during Open Season takes effect January 1 of the following year.

Who it applies to

Who Open Season applies to: active duty family members; retirees and their family members; survivors. Active duty service members are auto-enrolled in TRICARE Prime year-round. Premium-based plans (TRICARE For Life, TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, CHCBP, USFHP) do not use Open Season — they have their own enrollment rules.

How to enroll

Three ways to enroll or change plans during Open Season: log in to milConnect's Beneficiary Web Enrollment tool; call your regional contractor (Humana Military 1-800-444-5445 in the East, TriWest 1-888-874-9378 in the West); or mail a TRICARE enrollment form.

What happens if you do nothing

If you do nothing during Open Season, your current coverage continues — there is no auto-disenrollment.
