What is TRICARE Reserve Select?

TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) is a premium-based health plan available to qualified members of the Selected Reserve (including National Guard and Reserve components) and their eligible family members when the member is not on active duty orders. TRS provides comprehensive healthcare coverage similar to TRICARE Select, with the flexibility to see any TRICARE-authorized provider without referrals. Members pay monthly premiums that are significantly lower than comparable civilian insurance plans, with rates adjusted annually. To qualify, the Reserve member must be a member of the Selected Reserve, not be eligible for or enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program, and not be covered under the Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP). Family members can be enrolled with or separately from the sponsor. TRS has annual deductibles, copays, and cost-shares similar to TRICARE Select, and beneficiaries can use both network and non-network providers. Coverage begins on the effective date after the premium is received.
