What is the TRICARE Dental Program?

The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is a voluntary premium-based dental insurance plan available to eligible family members of active duty, Guard, and Reserve members, as well as retirees and their families. The TDP is administered by United Concordia Companies, Inc. and provides comprehensive dental coverage including preventive services (exams, cleanings, X-rays) at no cost-share, basic services (fillings, root canals, extractions) at a cost-share, major services (crowns, bridges, dentures) at a higher cost-share, and orthodontic services with a 24-month waiting period and lifetime maximum. Monthly premiums vary based on sponsor status, geographic location, and whether enrollment is individual or family. Active duty service members receive their dental care through their branch of service and do not need the TDP. The TDP has an annual maximum benefit per person, and some services have waiting periods before coverage begins. Enrollment in the TDP is separate from TRICARE medical enrollment and can be done online through the United Concordia website or by calling their enrollment line.
