Does TRICARE cover allergy testing?

TRICARE covers comprehensive allergy testing and treatment services when they are medically necessary and ordered by a TRICARE-authorized provider. Covered allergy tests include skin prick testing, intradermal testing, patch testing for contact dermatitis, and blood tests such as specific IgE (RAST) testing. TRICARE also covers allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots), which involves a series of injections over time to reduce sensitivity to allergens. Under TRICARE Prime, beneficiaries need a referral from their primary care manager to see an allergist, while TRICARE Select allows direct access to network allergists without a referral. Standard copays and cost-shares apply based on the beneficiary's plan type and whether the provider is in the TRICARE network. TRICARE covers both seasonal and perennial allergy evaluation and treatment for all eligible beneficiaries.
