Iowa and Texas are split between East and West regions. The Rock Island Arsenal area of Iowa and the El Paso area of Texas are covered by TRICARE West. The rest of these states fall under TRICARE East.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
If you have TRICARE Prime, yes — your Primary Care Manager (PCM) must provide a referral. TRICARE Select beneficiaries do not need referrals but may still need prior authorization for certain services.
What if I recently moved to the West region?
Contact Health Net Federal Services at 1-844-866-9378 to update your information. If you have TRICARE Prime, you'll need to select a new PCM in your area. Your benefits and plan type stay the same.
Can I use urgent care without a referral?
Yes. TRICARE covers urgent care visits at authorized urgent care centers without a referral, even for Prime beneficiaries. Copays vary by plan type.
