Maternity care encompasses the full spectrum of healthcare services related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. TRICARE provides comprehensive maternity coverage, making it one of the most valuable benefits for military families.

TRICARE maternity coverage includes: • Prenatal care visits and routine screenings • Genetic testing and counseling • Ultrasounds and diagnostic imaging • Labor and delivery (vaginal or cesarean) • Anesthesia services during labor • Postpartum care and follow-up visits • Breastfeeding support and counseling • Breast pumps (covered as DME) • Newborn care during hospital stay

Maternity care costs by plan: • TRICARE Prime: Low copays; no cost at MTFs • TRICARE Select: Cost-share after deductible; lower with network providers • Active duty: No cost for all maternity care

Important maternity care steps: • Confirm pregnancy with your PCM or provider • Register with your MTF or regional contractor early in pregnancy • Obtain referrals as needed for OB/GYN care (Prime enrollees) • Report the birth to DEERS within 90 days to enroll the newborn • Newborns are automatically covered for 60 days without separate enrollment
