Common Questions About TRICARE Dental
How do I enroll in the TRICARE Dental Program?
Enroll online at tricare.mil/TDP, by phone at 1-844-653-4061, or by mail. You can enroll any time — there's no open enrollment period. Coverage begins the first day of the month after enrollment is processed.
Can I see any dentist?
You can see any licensed dentist. However, using a United Concordia network dentist means lower out-of-pocket costs because they accept negotiated rates. Use the provider search at ucci.com to find network dentists.
Is there a waiting period for major services?
Yes. There is a 12-month waiting period for major restorative services (crowns, bridges, dentures) and orthodontics when you first enroll. Preventive and basic services are available immediately.
What about dental care for retirees?
The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) ended in 2018. Retirees and their families now get dental coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). Enroll at benefeds.com during Open Season.
Are braces covered for my child?
Orthodontic coverage is available for dependent children under age 23. TRICARE covers 50% of the cost up to a $1,750 lifetime maximum. There's a 12-month waiting period after enrollment.
