TRICARE for Life Overseas Health Program

Coverage is offered by Medicare in the United States and the U.S. Territories. TRICARE assumes the role of the primary payer for individuals who utilize TRICARE for Life in overseas locations. The applicant with health coverage benefit is solely responsible for the entire cost share and the annual deductibles. The beneficiaries of the TRICARE program who are residing overseas may be eligible under the premium-free Medicare Part A program. For this, members must be eligible by being enrolled in Medicare Part B under the TRICARE program even though no overseas coverage is offered under the Medicare program.

The TRICARE Overseas program is contracted in conjunction with the International SOS.This provides assistance such as providing the necessary information regarding health care claims, finding medical information, locating provider, receiving authorization for care, and additional assistance.

  1. I will be traveling to Israel within the next month. I understand that I will not be covered by Medicare A or B while overseas. In the event of a medical problem or emergency, does my Tricare for Life benefit cover emergency treatment or the cost of a hospital stay. If you could let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

  2. I will be on a bike tour of Belgium & The Netherlands for two weeks. Will I have coverage by Tricare for Life for emergency services if they should be required? If so, who would I contact there to arrange such services?
